![]() She also often attacks by kicking and has her leg cut off in an abandoned horse stable. In a flashback, Clementine was riding a horse when she was at the McCaroll Ranch which was killed by one of the inhabitants. In the second episode, her nightmare features a black horse. Her biker jacket is horse themed, with a horse skull patch on the back and badge reading "Silver Stallion" on her left sleeve. Animal Motif: In Season 4, she has a minor horse motif.Whether she does so is dependent on whether she went with Jane at the end of Season 2, as the other endings produce different results. Anguished Declaration of Love: If Gabe dies in Episode 5 of Season 3, one of the potential ways the conversation could go is Clementine admitting that she thought she would always be alone until she met Gabe and kisses him.AJ instead lops off the infected limb, which proves enough to save her. ![]() As she succumbs to the infection, she tries to force AJ to make the same choice she had to with Lee - let her turn, or put her out of her misery. An Arm and a Leg: In Season 4 Episode 4, Clem's leg is lacerated to the bone by Minerva and then chomped on by a walker.Amazon Chaser: In the Violet romance route, Clementine can tell Violet "she kicked ass" with a huge grin on her face.Regardless, Bonnie tries to act as a Moral Guardian by telling off the others for telling bawdy jokes in Clem's presence. Ambiguous Innocence: In Season 2, some of Clem's comments make it unclear if she hasn't had The Talk or is obfuscating naivety. ![]() In addition, Clementine's appearance is based on Derek Sakai's daughter, who is Asian, and, when asked about Clementine's racial background, Clementine's voice actor, Melissa Hutchinson, speculated that Clementine was half Black and half Asian, but clarified that she did know what the definitive answer was. Moreover, the creator of Clementine mentioned during a conference that they originally intended for her to be mixed-race, and insinuated that Diana is not her birth mother, but this is never mentioned in the final game and the details surrounding this concept were kept vague. Judging by their picture, both her parents are Black, though her mother Diana has light skin. The developers have stated that Clem is definitely African-American, though they have also stated that this isn't necessarily all her racial background. Her race is never discussed at any point in the game, but it's prompted a lot of debate among fans. She has olive skin, wavy brown hair, a narrow nose (at least in seasons 3-4), thin lips, and light-brown, almond-shaped eyes. Ambiguously Brown: Clementine's race is hard to distinguish visually.Even if she was alone with AJ, she still ended up having him taken from her by The New Frontier on David's order after she tried to save his life, and is later exiled and left to fend for herself. It's explained that it's due to her caretaker in Season 2 dying no matter the player's choice (whether it be Kenny, Jane or Edith). The Aloner: Is introduced as such in New Frontier, and is quick to distrust people such as Javi and would rather be alone in order to save herself from being hurt and abandoned again.Affectionate Nickname: Lee calls her "sweet pea" and Kenny calls her "darlin'". ![]()
The routing and monitor sections have their own presets that can be stored independently of global settings. Bottom left is the output routing area, where you assign various sources to the Saffire's outputs, and to the right of that is a monitor control panel. The mixer can, as you'd expect, route inputs directly to outputs for low‑latency monitoring, but, unlike the original Saffire, there are no DSP effects, so if you want to give your talent a vocal reverb, you'll have to monitor via your recording software and put up with the latency. Across the top is a tabbed mixer page, where you set up the monitor mixes that can be distributed to various performers. There are three basic sections to the GUI, all of which appear on a single panel (see screen overleaf). The result is something that looks very slick and professional, and clearly harbours a great deal of power, but is not always intuitive in operation. This is the first Saffire model I've used, and judging by appearances, Focusrite seem to have made fairly extensive changes to the graphical user interface (GUI) of the Saffire Control utility. However, it takes rather longer for that feeling to go away when getting to grips with the control panel software. It takes its time to switch on when you operate the front‑panel power switch, but after a while you learn to stop thinking 'Shit, have I broken something?' before the green light appears. The Pro 40's rear panel includes (from left to right) sockets for the built‑in power supply, coaxial S/PDIF I/O, MIDI I/O, Firewire, optical S/PDIF and ADAT, two analogue monitor outputs, eight analogue outputs and six jack/XLR inputs (the other two are found on the front of the unit).įor some reason, my Windows XP laptop wouldn't recognise the Saffire the first time I installed the driver software, but second time around everything worked fine. Finally, unlike many competitors, the Saffire Pro 40 can only be used while connected to a computer: it doesn't function as a stand‑alone device. They are working on multi-unit support, but it's not yet clear what form this will take or when it will arrive. Focusrite initially told me that two Saffire Pro 40s could be used at the same time, but apparently this is not the case. There's a dedicated pair of monitor outputs as well as the eight standard line outs, and a pair of 'loopback' inputs allows you to route audio from one audio application back into the Pro 40's mixer, to be recorded in another. Digital I/O is available in electrical and optical formats, but there's no word clock, and only a single pair of optical connectors - some interfaces have two pairs, giving you an extra 16 channels of possible I/O via ADAT. You can't bus‑power the unit, but there's an internal power supply that takes a standard IEC kettle lead. Hardware metering is superior to that on the M‑Audio or Presonus offerings, with a five‑LED 'ladder' display for each of the eight analogue inputs. These are summarised in the 'Vital Statistics' box, but it's worth drawing attention to a few features that set the Saffire Pro 40 apart from its competitors. The latest entrant into this market, Focusrite's Saffire Pro 40, retails at a mere £349 $499, yet offers what appears on paper to be an incredible set of features. ![]() ![]() And, what's more, prices have been tumbling. Products like Presonus's Firestudio, M‑Audio's Profire 2626 and Focusrite's Saffire 26I/O offer a mic preamp for each analogue input, along with sophisticated internal mixing functionality. In the last couple of years, however, we've seen a number of interfaces designed to make an additional mixer redundant. A mixer might also be needed if you wanted to set up multiple monitor mixes for different performers, allowing them all to hear themselves with no latency. Until recently, most multi‑channel audio interfaces offered mainly line‑level inputs, and if you wanted to record multiple mics simultaneously you'd need to add a mixer or preamp. The new audio interface from Focusrite offers an awful lot, for an awful lot less than you'd think. Twenty 125-foot-tall brick columns support the wooden superstructure. All of this for an event at which Lincoln was not even present! This might appear to be a whopping digression in a book that presents itself as a true-crime tick-tock on the Lincoln assassination, but in truth, lavish helpings of military history have become an essential component to the Killing formula. Part 1 of that book is largely taken up with detailed accounts of the final throes of the Civil War, including battle maps of sites like Petersburg and Saylers Creek, complete with curved lines and arrows illustrating troop configurations and movements. For pages and pages, we read about attack formations and left flanks or in one instance a bridge, made of stone and felled trees which stretches a half mile, from the bluff outside Farmville marking the southern shore of the Appomattox River floodplain to the Prince Edward Court House bluff at the opposite end. ![]() Theyre Frankenstein productions, with odd and seemingly extraneous bits awkwardly grafted onto the main narrative like a third arm or leg.For example, notably absent from the first 15 chapters of Killing Lincoln, beyond the occasional cameo, is Abraham Lincoln. Yet the Killing books dont really resemble any fictional thriller Ive ever read. This proved to be true: Killing Lincoln, Killing Kennedy, and Killing Jesus have been made into TV movies by the National Geographic Channel, and adaptations of Killing Reagan and Killing Patton are set to air next year. The Killing books are often said to read like thrillers: short on context and complexity and long on action, crosscutting between multiple storylines, cliff-hangers, and one-sentence paragraphs. Books by historians are boring, OReilly told a radio interviewer, so he figured if you can write exciting books you would sell a lot of copies and have movies made of them. The whole point of the Killing books is that they arent like works of real historythat is, dry, slow-moving, and lacking in moral certainty. This flaw seems to bother the books vast readership not a whit. You can collect errors as you wander through these pages as easily as a child picks up seashells on a beach. As a Killing book would no doubt summarize the question, there are secrets here that may never be told.Until now, the press attention to the Killing books has focused on their lack of historical rigor and their inaccuracy, which is considerable. (Dugard has produced several books on his own.) Perhaps Dugard is a literary ventriloquist or perhaps OReilly, who boasts of having once taught high school history, really does like to keep his oar in. Yet the books often sound just like OReillythat supercilious defensiveness masquerading as wised-up straight talkand also occasionally sound like Dugard, the more artful writer of the two. The party line is that Dugard gathers the research and OReilly does the writing, a dubious assertion given that OReilly also hosts a cable news program every weeknight. The similarity of Tut to the Killing franchisefamous name from history, flimsy insinuations of homicidal conspiracy, florid storytellingcan be no coincidence.Just how much of the Killing series is actually written by OReilly is difficult to discern. In fact, OReillys co-author on the Killing series is Martin Dugard, a sometime James Patterson collaborator, most notably on a 2009 title, The Murder of King Tut. The newest, Killing Reagan, published only three months ago, will likely hit the seven-figure mark by the end of the holiday season, as desperate shoppers scramble to find gifts for their cranky, Fox Newsaddicted dads and uncles. To churn out five best-sellers in four years, you need a fail-safe formula, like those employed by the kind of thriller impresario who hires other writers to do the heavy lifting on the books published under his brand name. Beginning with Killing Lincoln, published in 2011, each bookKilling Kennedy, Killing Jesus, and Killing Pattonhas sold well over 1 million copies in hardcover alone. ![]() Nowhere is OReillys canniness more evident than in the runaway success of his Killing series of popular histories. This is a guy who hosts a highly rated cable news program and wrote a first novel in which a fiendish stalker murders a man with an iced-tea spoon on. Say what you will about Bill OReilly, but he knows what the public wants. ![]() Skylum has already released one free update for version 4, and more free updates are planned for the future. Overall, the library section of Luminar 4 could use a lot of work, but it still provides a basic set of tools for browsing, sorting, and flagging your photo collection. Ideally, it would be possible to create albums automatically based on shared characteristics, such as ‘All 18mm Images’ or ‘All Images Captured July 14 2018′, but for now, you’ll have to stick to dragging and dropping manually. The only method of sorting images is through the Albums feature, and each Album has to be created by hand. There is also no option to save your adjustments to a separate sidecar file for transferring to another computer. ![]() IPTC metadata isn’t supported yet, and there is no way to add custom tags to your images. If you’ve been using another library management tool for flags and ratings, none of those settings will be imported along with your photos. The size of the filmstrip can’t be adjusted, although it can be hidden, along with the Looks panel at the bottom. When you’re in single image preview mode, a filmstrip of the current folder is displayed on the left, making full use of widescreen monitor ratios. You can color-code your images, give them star ratings, and use simple flags for approving or rejecting images. Luminar uses a catalog system similar to Lightroom where all your images stay in their current folders on your drive, and a separate catalog file indexes all your flags, ratings and adjustments. The promised improvements like metadata searching and IPTC metadata compatibility have not been included, even though they’re still in the update roadmap. ![]() However, even in version 4, the Library function leaves a lot to be desired. This was a major gap in Luminar’s features in previous releases, so it’s great to see Skylum following up on user demand. One of the most interesting additions to version 3 of Luminar is the Library feature for organizing your photos. I thoroughly test all the editing programs I review including this one Luminar 4, so you can skip the whole testing process and focus on what matters most to you: producing great photographs! Detailed Review of Skylum Luminar Organizing Your Library Whether it’s for a client project or for my own personal photography practice, it’s essential to have the best available editing software at my fingertips. Hi, my name is Thomas Boldt, and I’ve been working with digital photographs for well over a decade. What I Don’t Like: PC version is less responsive than on Mac. What I Like: Impressive automatic enhancements. If they want to include essential organization features like metadata search or a Lightroom migration tool, they should be available at the time of purchase, rather than making customers wait up to a year. It’s the sort of thing you usually see describing upcoming features for subscription-based software, and it’s a bit inconvenient for basic, essential features of a single-purchase program. Skylum has announced a year-long roadmap of updates they plan for both versions of the software, but this strikes me as a bit strange. While it can still be a bit slow when switching between the library and edit modules, the most frustrating delays are gone. I’m glad to report that this newest version of Luminar has corrected the speed issues that plagued earlier releases. A completely customizable workflow can dramatically simplify your editing process, so you can focus on exactly what your images need to look their best. The RAW conversion engine provides a good starting point for your images, and most edits feel snappy and responsive. Skylum Luminar is a non-destructive RAW editor that provides an excellent range of tools for developing your images. Your Cozmo robot comes with a code lab designed to open the world of coding to children. Of course, we can’t forget the education side. If you thought things can’t get better, Cozmo is equipped with an Explorer Mode so you can experience things from his perspective. He can exhibit a full range of emotions from happy and content to frustrated and assertive. Cozmo can react to situations in a human world. Like you, he loves to have fun, can express emotions, recognize you and remember your name thanks for his built in “emotion engine”. Who doesn’t need a wing man? Anki brings you Cozmo – a robot who will quickly become your BFF. |
